Will Google+ cross over to the mainstream?

Aug 18, 2011 by Rebecca Xiong

Now that Google+ has been out for over a month and the early hype has died down, what is the response from different segments? Some reports have indicated that early adopters tended to be techie males. The big open question is- how is Google+ faring with the mainstream?

At SocMetrics we identify and monitor topical influencers, such as influential Moms. Below are our findings from analyzing how influencers in different segments feel about Google+ over the past three weeks (a month after Google+ was released).

While the initial buzz is waning, Google+ still has a great opportunity ahead. It has enough attention, even with some mainstream groups like Moms, photographers, book authors that are giving it a chance. Google needs to move quickly to capitalize on this window, though, before it continues waning. As the adage goes, "you only get one chance to make a first impression." This is even more true in the age of social media.
